Analog to WiFi Speakers is an Android app that takes analog audio input through a USB audio interface and streams it locally to Google Cast speakers and speaker groups. It uses a local HLS pipeline for stable playback and multiroom support, with real-world latency of around 5 seconds. Built as a practical solution for bringing turntables, cassette decks, CD players, and other analog sources into existing Google Home setup.

Technical Overview

Analog to WiFi Speakers captures analog audio input via a USB audio interface and processes it in real time on Android.

The audio pipeline consists of:

• PCM capture (typically 48kHz, mono/stereo depending on input)
• Optional DSP processing (gain, bass/treble adjustments)
• AAC encoding (~96 kbps)
• Real-time HLS segmentation (≈1 second segments)
• Local HTTP server serving HLS playlists and segments
• Google Cast playback via standard HLS stream loading

The system is designed for stability and compatibility with Google Cast speaker groups, avoiding issues commonly encountered with direct low-latency streaming protocols.

Measured end-to-end latency is approximately 4–6 seconds, depending on network and device conditions.
